Natalie Anne Steinberg:

CLASS OF 1988
Spencer, NY

Natalie Anne's Story

Life I am currently living in Dunnellon, Florida. I moved to Florida in 1997 with my six month old son, and I have never looked back. I teach middle school English at a very small school on the gulf coast. It is called Yankeetown School, which amuses me since all my students believe me to be a "Yankee" while they refer to themselves as "Florida Crackers." I enjoy teaching. I was actually inspired to teach English from two teachers from S-VE. I doubt they even realize the impact that they had on my life and career choice. First would be Mrs. Fisher, who was my yearbook advisor when I was the editor of the Alpha Omega in 1988. She allowed me to express myself freely in my writings for that yearbook. The other great influence on me and actually my teaching philosophy would be Mr. Gordon Lewis. He pushed me to limits I never knew I could reach; he always forced me to look deeper into the meaning of literature, and he always was teaching me how to become a better writer. Between these two teachers, I have become my own educator, a representation of these two phenomenal teachers. School It is hard to believe that I graduated almost twenty years ago! Where has the time gone? I guess it is safe to admit my biggest crush was on Danny Miller. I am pretty sure he was aware of that, but nothing ever became of it. I do remember a visit from him and Randy one night to my campus apartment in Cortland. Good times. As far as most inspirational teacher I would have to say Mr. Lewis and Mrs. Fisher. ...Expand for more
It wasn't until I got involved with yearbook that I realized how much I enjoyed writing. Mr. Lewis was, in my opinion, an outstanding teacher, and is why I became an English teacher myself. If I could go back and do it again, I would. I think many of us learned from the passing years from our mistakes and that we wish we could go back in time and change some of those. I am one of those people. I have no regrets. I just would have done things a little differently, that's all. College I attended Ithaca College from August 1988 until December 1989, whereupon, I transferred to SUNY Cortland, which I matriculated from in May of 1993. I think one of my three best memories will be the times when 1) I was playing intramural softball and one of my guy friends were both going for the ball, long story short, he broke his finger because of me...and he was a HUGE baby about it. Come on! It was just a finger. 2) Would have to be the time when I was playing intramural hockey late one night. Actually, it was called broomball. Nothing like using a broom to hit a ball on the ice... those were good times. 3) Most definitely be my 21st birthday, spent with all my favorite roommates and friends. Man, I will never forget how trashed I was. Oh yeah, can't forget the night one summer when I went back to campus to visit a roommate who had stayed for the summer session; we got totally hammered, and that was the time I pierced my ear for the second time on the left side. It is one of my "statements" of my youth!
